Nairy Baghramian setzt sich, meist ausgehend vom (fragmentierten) menschlichen Körper, mit den grundlegenden Fragen der Kunstproduktion auseinander: mit dem Verhältnis von Produktion und Rezeption, von Bild und Rahmung, Objekt und Sockel, etwa, sowie mit dem Einsatz von Material und dem Bezug zum Alltäglichen. In ortsbezogenen Installationen, fragil wirkenden Skulpturen, die sichtlich Stützung brauchen, Zeichnungen und fotografischen Arbeiten formuliert sie eine klare Absage an die Konvention der selbstbewussten Pose, der dominanten Setzung, an den Anspruch des Immerwährenden. In ihrer künstlerischen Formensprache, Materialwahl und Herangehensweise dem Postminimalismus gleichermaßen nahe stehend wie der Konzeptkunst, nutzt die Künstlerin das Potenzial der Abstraktion, um komplexe Fragestellungen zu verhandeln und für sie eine ästhetisch formale Entsprechung zu finden.

In art that typically takes the (fragmented) human body as its point of departure, Nairy Baghramian grapples with the fundamental questions of art production: with the interrelations between production and reception, between picture and frame, between object and pedestal, for example, but also with the use of materials and the work’s interaction with the everyday. In site-responsive installations, sculptures that appear fragile, obviously in need of support, drawings, and photographic works, the artist takes a stand against the conventional pose of self-confidence, the dominant creative gesture, and its claim to perpetual validity.
