Erstmals nach 15 Jahren ist eine Performance des Künstlers Roman Ondak (*1966) wieder zu erleben, die speziell für die Pinakothek der Moderne entstanden ist. Das Konzept von „Measuring the Universe“ („Das Universum vermessen“) ist einfach: Die Körpergröße der Museumsbesucherinnen und -besucher wird auf der Wand festgehalten – in der Art, wie Eltern das Wachstum ihrer Kinder markieren, um ihnen ein Gefühl für die Dimension der Zeit zu vermitteln. Eine alltägliche, eigentlich private Handlung rückt ins Zentrum der Aufmerksamkeit und verwandelt sich in eine öffentliche und kollektive Aktion. Im Ausstellungszeitraum entsteht eine Zeichnung an der Wand, die immer dichter und schwärzer wird. Am Ende werden alle Menschen gleichzeitig präsent sein, obwohl sie auch alle wieder gegangen sind. „Measuring the Universe“ ist ein Bild unseres Lebens auf dieser Welt – ein Bild von der Bedeutung, aber auch von der Bedeutungslosigkeit des einzelnen Menschen in Masse und Zeit.

For the first time in 15 years, a performance by the artist Roman Ondak (*1966) can be experienced again, created especially for the Pinakothek der Moderne. The concept of "Measuring the Universe" is simple: the height of each individual visiting the museum is recorded on the wall - in the way parents mark the growth of their children to give them a sense of the dimension of time. An everyday, actually private action becomes the center of attention and is transformed into a public and collective action. During the exhibition period, a drawing is created on the wall that becomes increasingly dense and black. In the end, all visitors will be present at the same time, although they will all have left as well.
"Measuring the Universe" is a picture of our life in this world - a picture of the importance, but also insignificance of the individual human being in mass and time.
